Yayyy!

Deze geweldig leuke broches, kettingen en oorbellen door Made By White zijn vandaag aangekomen, helemaal vanuit Australië! Ze zijn nog mooier dan ik had verwacht. Sommige zijn van hout en anderen van plastic. En kijk dat schattige konijntje (en hertje!) met een rood vilten kapje dan! Het kan niet schattiger, geloof ik.. Ik ben er helemaal blij mee en het liefst zou ik ze allemaal zelf gaan dragen. Maar ze komen natuurlijk in de winkel! ;) Ik heb er maar van elke eentje, dus wees erbij op 15 mei en grijp je kans!

These wonderful brooches, necklaces and earrings by Made By White arrived today, all the way from Australia! They are even cooler and cuter than I thought they would be! Some are made from wood and others from plastic. And look at that sweet little bunny (and deer!) with a red felt cape! How cute is that! I'm so happy with them and I would wear them all if I could. But of course I will be selling them in my shop. ;) I have one of each, so when the shop opens or when the web shop goes online; be quick!

Hiii!

Gisteren zijn mijn moeder en ik even wat spullen wezen brengen naar de winkel. Het is nu wel een beetje een rotzooi, maar dat komt vast goed! Op de bovenste foto zie je allerlei materialen voor workshops. Ik vind het wel een kleurrijk geheel!

Nu nog wachten op alle mooie spulletjes van de designers en dan kan het echte inrichten beginnen!

Yesterday my mom and I went to the shop to drop off some stuff. It's a bit of a mess now, but I'm sure it will look great soon. On the first picture you can see the materials I'm going to use for the workshops. I think it looks colorful and fun!

Now I just have to wait for all the lovely items the designers are sending me.. And then the real decorating and furnishing can begin!

Hier een aantal foto's van de winkel in wording! We zijn al heel druk bezig geweest met kitten, verven, elektra en de inrichting.

Niet alle units in ROTABS zijn geverfd, maar de mijne was al een keer fel oranje geweest. Daarna was hij wit geverfd, maar het oranje scheen er nog goed doorheen. We waren dus gedwongen om de unit helemaal wit te maken (met een mooie zacht groen/blauwe muur). Maar dat vind ik helemaal niet erg; ik ben er heel erg blij mee! De witte wanden en plafond zorgen voor een mooi licht geheel.

Nu ben ik heel erg benieuwd hoe het er uitgaat zien met alle meubels en spulletjes erin! Nog eventjes wachten..

Good morning!

Here are some pictures of the development of the shop! We've been so busy with painting, the lights and decorating. Not all units in ROTABS are painted, but mine was. It first was bright orange and then it was painted white. But the orange was visible beneath the thing layer of white paint. So we were forced to paint the whole unit white (and I made one wall a very soft green/blue). Not that I mind, because I love it this way! The white walls and ceiling make the space very light and roomy. I'm very excited to see what it will look like with all the furniture and stuff in it!

Dit is een klein voorproefje van wat ik zoal in de winkel ga verkopen! Allerlei lieve en mooie handgemaakte cadeautjes en accessoires. Ik word helemaal blij als ik naar deze spulletjes kijk! Ik heb mijn best gedaan om de zo leuk mogelijke producten bij elkaar te zoeken. Ik heb natuurlijk het liefst unieke spullen in mijn winkel liggen, dus heb ik gezocht naar ontwerpers die wat minder bekend zijn (hoewel er ook wat meer bekende tussen zullen zitten!). Het is niet alleen leuk om wat nieuws aan te kunnen bieden, maar ik vind het ook heel fijn om jonge en nieuwe ontwerpers/kunstenaars/illustratoren (zoals ikzelf ook ben) een kans te geven!

Tot nu toe heb ik hele leuke contacten aan deze zoektocht over gehouden; bijna iedereen heeft gelijk ja gezegd. Sommige hebben zelfs een uitzondering voor mij gemaakt, wat ik heel lief van ze vind! Dankjewel!

Later komt er natuurlijk meer info over de verschillende designers en hun werk!

Hi there!

This is a little sneak peek of the beautiful and sweet things I'm going to sell in my shop! They are all handmade and unique goodies and accessories. I did my utter best to find the loveliest items for in my shop! I get all happy and excited when I look at them! I looked for some designers who were less known on the Internet. It's not only nice to sell unique things which are new to people, but I also like to help and promote young or new designers/illustrators/artists (just like me!). I 'met' some very nice people during this quest, almost everyone said 'yes!' when I asked them if I could sell their work in my new little shop! Some designers even made an exception for me, how awfully kind of them! Thanks!

Later on I will post more info and photos of the designers and their work!

Op deze blog kun je de komende tijd mijn avontuur lezen; ik begin mijn eigen echte winkeltje!

Wie ben ik?
Ik ben Lisa Manuels en ik ben illustratrice. Maar ik houd niet alleen van tekenen, ik houd eigenlijk van alles wat uniek, handgemaakt en creatief is! Een droom van mij is om een eigen winkel vol met handgemaakte spulletjes te hebben, inclusief mijn eigen werk. En deze droom staat op het punt om uit te komen!

Sinds 1 april ben ik de eigenaar van een unit in het ROTABS Stylecenter in Rotterdam. ROTABS is een ontzettend gave plek; een oude kazerne/garage vol units die gehuurd kunnen worden door allerlei creatieve mensen en kunstenaars. Er wordt vanalles verkocht; kleding, tassen, kunst, vintage, etc.
Bovenop de unit is ook een werkplek. Mijn moeder (Louise Manuels) huurt deze en gaat daar haar sieraden en glaskralen maken! Natuurlijk worden deze ook verkocht in de shop.

De winkel gaat ‘Elle Aime’ heten. Als je onze initialen LM (Lisa & Louise Manuels) uitspreekt en vertaalt naar het Frans, dan krijg je ‘elle aime’ = ‘zij houdt van’! Natuurlijk ga ik alleen spulletjes verkopen waar ik (en hopelijk jij ook!) van houd! De naam heb ik – helaas – niet zelf verzonnen, maar Laura Manfre; een Franse illustratrice!

Naast de verkoop van handgemaakte cadeautjes en accessoires, ga ik ook veel creatieve workshops organiseren. Sommige zal ik zelf gaan geven, anderen worden gegeven door verschillende creatieve mensen en kunstenaars uit Nederland! Denk aan sieraden maken (op andere manieren dan je gewend bent!), stempels maken, textiel bedrukken en iets met papierknipkunst!

De winkel wordt officieel geopend op 15 mei, tijdens de Swanmarket. De Swanmarket is een ontzettend leuke markt vol kraampjes met handgemaakte & vintage hebbedingen. Deze markt wordt gehouden op het terrein van ROTABS.
Het lijkt me heel erg leuk als je langs kunt komen tijdens de opening! Voor jou nog een voordeel; je pikt gelijk de Swanmarket (en alle andere shops in ROTABS) mee!

Woon je helemaal in het verre Groningen, Limburg of heel ergens anders in de wereld? Vrees niet! Er komt ook een internationale webshop aan waarin allerlei spulletjes verkocht zullen worden, net als in de echte winkel!

Binnenkort zal ik de eerste foto’s plaatsen en meer informatie geven over de winkel en de workshops. Houd de blog en ons Twitter account in de gaten!

Welcome to this blog!

On this blog you will find everything about my newest adventure; opening a real shop! Who am I? I am Lisa Manuels and I’m an illustrator. But drawing is not the only thing I like. I love everything that’s unique, handmakde and creative! Having my own shop full of handmade treasures, including my own work, is like a dream coming true.

From April 1 I’ve been the owner of a unit in the ROTABS Stylecenter in Rotterdam. ROTABS is such a cool place; it’s an old building full of units that can be rented by artists. Those artists make and sell their work there! They sell stuff like handmade clothing, bags, art, books, vintage and little handmade accessories.
On top of every unit there’s also a workplace. My mom (Louise Manuels) is going to rent the workplace above my shop and she will make her glassbeads and jewelry there! Of course her jewelry and beads will also be sold in my shop.

The shop will be called ‘Elle Aime’. My (and my mom’s!) initials are LM (Lisa & Louise Manuels). If you pronounce these initials and then ‘translate’ that to French, it will be; ‘elle aime’ = ‘she loves’! (I did not come up with this lovely name myself, but the illustrator Laure Manfre (or known as Sisterplanet)!)
Of course I will be selling all kinds of stuff that I (and hopefully you too) love!

Besides selling all kinds of lovely handmade products, I will also organize a lot of fun and creative workshops. These will be given by me or other artists/creative people from the Netherlands! You can expect workshops like making jewelry, making stamps, printing fabric and something with paper cutting!

The shop will be officially opened on May 15. There also will be a fun market around ROTABS on that day; the Swanmarket. A market full of handmade and vintage stuff!

I would love for you to visit me during the opening (or after), but if you live in a far off land; don’t cry! I’m working on an international online shop too! This will give you the opportunity to visit my shop anyway and buy yourself or someone else some lovely handmade gifts & goodies!

Soon there will be more pictures of the shop and info about the upcoming workshops!
