Workshop announcement!

Deze workshop zit helemaal vol! Hopelijk organiseren we nog een keertje een workshop 'stempels snijden', houd deze blog in de gaten! :)

Hiii!

Yay! De volgende workshop 'stempels maken' staat vast! Op 11 september komen we weer samen in Elle Aime in Rotterdam om samen leuke stempeltjes te maken. Ik heb er nu al zin in! De vorige keer was een groot succes. Iedereen ging naar huis met een mooie stempel en sommigen namen wat spulletjes mee om thuis verder te snijden en gutsen! Ik hoop dat het deze keer weer net zo leuk gaat worden, maar dat gaat vast lukken. Ik heb de laatste keer zelf brownies gebakken en dat ga ik natuurlijk weer doen (of worden het dit keer andere zoetigheden?). Deze keer zal de workshop wel ietsje langer duren, zodat we tussendoor ook nog even kunnen rusten (het is ook zulk zwaar werk ;)!).

Ik ben gek op stempels. Sinds ik een handgemaakte stempel van Tarah (van Kitty Darkness Designs!) heb ontvangen (gemaakt van mijn eigen tekeningetje!) ben ik verkocht. Ik stempel overal op; op cadeautasjes, enveloppen, briefjes, pakketjes, inpakpapier.. Noem maar op!

Tegenwoordig zijn er overal leuke stempels te koop, vooral op het Internet. Maar wat is er nu nog leuker dan jezelf trakteren op een mooie stempel? Jawel! Jezelf trakteren op een workshop waarbij je je eigen stempel kunt maken! Cadeautjes of briefjes maak je net iets persoonlijker wanneer je er letterlijk je eigen stempel op drukt. Misschien wil je een stempel maken van een kleine tekening of logo dat je hebt ontworpen? Je kunt natuurlijk ook je initialen of een woord als uitgangspunt gebruiken. Laat je creativiteit de vrije loop, je mag zelf bepalen hoe jouw stempel eruit komt te zien!

Je gaat niet alleen met je eigen handgemaakte stempel naar huis, ook is het natuurlijk gewoon erg gezellig om met z’n allen een middagje creatief bezig te zijn. Daarnaast leer je er gelijk weer een leuke vaardigheid bij.

Je mag tijdens de workshop 1 of 2 stempels maken. Je kunt bijvoorbeeld van tevoren al een ontwerp maken, dit ontwerp moet kleiner zijn dan 8 bij 4 cm (of twee kleine ontwerpen voor twee kleine stempeltjes, ook leuk!). Tarah zal ook een aantal voorbeelden meenemen, maar het is handig om van tevoren te verzinnen wat je ongeveer wilt maken!

De workshop wordt gehouden midden in het winkeltje Elle Aime. Dit is sowieso al een inspirerende ruimte, aangezien het een winkeltje is vol handgemaakte cadeautjes en accessoires; vervaardigd door allerlei verschillende ontwerpers/kunstenaars van over de hele wereld.

De workshop kost 30 euro per persoon. Dit is inclusief de materialen en natuurlijk krijg je ook thee, koffie en/of fris en wat lekkers tijdens de workshop! De workshop duurt ongeveer 3 uur. En wordt gegeven op 11 september van 13:00 tot (ongeveer) 16:00.

De workshop wordt gegeven door Tarah en haar vriend. Zij hebben zelf al heel wat stempels gemaakt en zijn daarom ook de aangewezen personen om je te helpen bij het maken van je eigen stempel.

Je kunt je aanmelden voor deze workshop via shopelleaime@hotmail.com. Stuur een mailtje met als onderwerp ‘inschrijving stempelsnij workshop’ waarin je duidelijk maakt dat je mee zou willen doen met de workshop en je naam & telefoonnummer.Wanneer we je mailtje binnen hebben, krijg je z.s.m. een e-mail terug met daarin extra informatie over de workshop + de gegevens die je nodig hebt om het geld over te maken.

Er is maar plaats voor 12 deelnemers en vol is vol. Dus schrijf je snel in: dit wil je niet missen!

Hoi!

Deze week ben ik tot en met zondag in de winkel (want het is de eerste zondag van de maand!). Ik voel me er al helemaal thuis! Mijn winkeltje zit, zoals jullie waarschijnlijk weten, in het ROTABS Stylecenter in Rotterdam en ik zit hier zeker niet alleen! In dit gebouw zitten meerdere 'units' en daarin zitten verschillende creatieve mensen en kunstenaars om hun werk te verkopen, maken en/of exposeren. Samen kletsen we wat af en drinken we veel bakjes koffie en thee. Zo voelt het toch nog een beetje alsof ik (hele leuke) collega's heb. :)

Hello!

This week I will be in the shop until Sunday (because this will be the first Sunday of the month!). I feel myself at home there already! As you may know, my shop is located in the ROTABS Stylecenter in Rotterdam and in this building there are different units which are rented by a lot of other creative people and artists who make, sell and show their work there. We talk a little bit (okay, we talk a lot..) and we drink lots of coffee and tea together. This way it feels a bit like I have (super fun) colleagues! :)

La Feria 2011

Goedenavond!

Afgelopen zondag heb ik met mijn eigen werk op La Feria gestaan in Breda. Dit is een kleinschalige markt georganiseerd door Pâmela van Feito Com Amor! Het was een gezellige dag en we hadden het erg goed getroffen met het weer! De markt werd gehouden in de tuin van Stilleven, een ontzettend leuk zaakje vol brocante spulletjes en hebbedingen! Maar je kunt er ook een lekker broodje eten en een kopje koffie drinken. Als je in Breda bent, moet je hier zeker eventjes langsgaan!

Pâmela gaat ook haar eigen winkeltje starten! In september of oktober gaan de deuren open in de Sint Annastraat in Breda. Ik ben heel erg benieuwd! Dit moet wel een leuk winkeltje worden. Waarschijnlijk gaat Pâmela ook mijn eigen werk daar verkopen! :) Houd Feito Com Amor dus in de gaten!

Good evening!

Last Sunday I attended the La Feria market (organized by Pâmela from Feito Com Amor) in Breda. I sold my own work there and it was a fun day! We we're lucky, because it stayed dry and eventually the sun started shining. The market was held in the garden of the shop Stilleven. Stilleven is a lovely shop, where you can also get yourself some tasty sandwiches or a cup of coffee. If you're near Breda, you should definitely visit the shop!

Pâmela is also opening her own real shop soon! In September/October the shop will be opened in the Sint Annastraat in Breda. I'm excited to see what it's going to look like! Even een update. :)

- Op ImaginativeBloom.com staat een stuk over de winkel! Helemaal leuk, want deze blog/site is een van mijn favorieten. En alle reclame voor de winkel is natuurlijk goed! Dankjewel, Irene, voor de lieve woorden en het leuke stukje! Een tijdje geleden had ik nooit gedacht dat ik zo snel een winkeltje had die onder de 'Indie Craft Shops' op ImaginativeBloom.com zou staan!

Voor het geval dat je het nog niet gemerkt had; de online shop is eindelijk open! Yay! Ik ben er heel erg blij mee & ik hoop dat jullie hem net zo leuk vinden als ik! :)

Ik voeg elke dag nieuwe producten toe; kettingen, oorbellen, broches, buttons, kaartjes, stickers, tasjes, kussenslopen, knuffels & meer. Featured designer; Lily from Gamma Folk!

Today I sent out the first newsletter ever! In that newsletter I promised an interview with Lily Piyathaisere from Gamma Folk! She makes such lovely pendants using the cross stitch technique and I just wanted to introduce her to you! Her work is for sale in the real shop in Rotterdam, but also in the online shop (didn't I tell you; THE ONLINE SHOP IS OPEN!). Yayyy! Well, more about that later on. Here is the interview! Can you tell a little bit about yourself and what you do?

Hello! I'm Lily, the brains and fingers behind Gamma Folk, a line of cross stitched jewelry. Based in my little studio apartment in San Francisco, California, I'm a graphic designer by day and self-taught cross stitcher by night. The name Gamma Folk comes from the gamma ray which has a very high frequency but is the shortest wavelength of the spectrum, which I see as a metaphor for many crafters, putting their energy and hardwork into handmade goods. And 'Folk' which is inspired by needlepoint being a folk art.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration in many places, from the mundane things in life, (like the lovely color arrangement of vegetables in the local market) to films (just watched Lost Highway by David Lynch) to books (currently reading The Philosophy of Andy Warhol) to the people I see on the subway and streets everyday to vintage fabrics.

When and why did you decide to start selling your handmade pendants/necklaces?

I launched Gamma Folk just a few months ago and have been so happy by the overwhelmingly positive response to my work. Its the first time I've sold any of my crafts. I began cross stitching during my work commute which at the time was about 2 hours a day and a way to relieve stress from modern technology. But what I initially loved is that each stitch reminds me of a pixel so I kind of see my work as an analog translation of my graphic design work. And after exploring with different materials, designs and types of products, I decided it was time to launch Gamma Folk.

Do you also make other creative things and are you planning to sell more and different handmade products in the future?

I consider myself a hobbyist, I've experimented with loads of mediums and love learning about new techniques, but cross stitching is the first one I've really stuck with for longer than a few months! I also love hand printing using my gocco or blockprints. And I want to eventually expand the cross stitching pendants into other products, but made the decision to stay focused on one product first.

Who is your favorite designer/artist/painter/illustrator/jewelry maker?

Oh thats tough! There's so many talented folks in the industry. Some of my favorite designers/artists/illustrators/jewelry makers are Vera Neumann, Caitlin Mociun, Lauren Manoogian, Lena Corwin, Matt Furie, Wim Crowel, Otl Aicher, Iris Apfel.

What is your ultimate creative dream goal?

My ultimate goal is to work in the crafting industry full time and turn my hobby into a career, whether that's cross stitching full time or doing art direction/graphic design work in the craft industry.
